Police meet on Jorhat crime rate

Jorhat, May 18: Deputy-inspector general of Assam police (eastern range) R.P. Meena today reviewed law and order of Jorhat district at Jorhat Sadar police station here and directed police to take necessary steps to reduce the crime rate in the district.

Meena discussed the recent recovery of the body of retired DIG Prabin Saikia, suspected to be murdered, molestation cases and other crimes in the district during the past few months.

Talking to the media later, he said: “We have got specific clues suggesting that DIG Saikia was murdered. An investigation is on and going in the right direction. I am keeping a close watch on law and order in the district.”

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tinsukia and Dhemaji districts later this month, he said: “We are busy with the proposed visit of the Prime Minister on May 26. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure high level of security during the visit.”

The meeting was attended by several other high-ranking police officers.
